Craft Your Own Mechanical Clock Movement

A chance to build your own mechanical clock movement from scratch under the guide and tuition of an experienced clock maker.

Syllabus

Our Build a Clock course takes you through the meticulous creation of a precisely designed clock movement. The curriculum includes:

  • Utilising a Pantograph for Scaled Blanks
  • Precision Wheel and Pinion Cutting Clock
  • Train Assembly
  • Anchor Escapement Setup
  • Fabrication Crafting Alternative Motion Work

Under the expert guidance of Ross Alcock FBHI, this  course, set in our well-equipped workshop, allows beginners with basic machining knowledge and hand skills to manufacture a functional mechanical clock movement.

Over a week, you'll transform raw materials into components, assembling an elegant hook and spike wall clock movement to take home.

The course aims to complete the movement, up to the ticking stage, within the week. You'll acquire the skills and drawings to finish the dial and hands at your own pace.

Note that a basic understanding of machining is required. Contact J A Alcock & Son for guidance if needed before taking on this course.
